Meet Kate Powell, GRI, ABR, ePro, CDPE (Certified Distressed Property Expert)

My story begins 6 years ago when my husband and I were discussing suggestions in career choices.  I had already made it through college and earned a BA in Journalism and English, and had been in the marketing, advertising and sales industry for 13 years.  I was ready for a change. Real Estate came up in the conversation and it turns out, I really liked real estate, took the required courses and test, and earned my license.

My training and experience includes 3 years through the end of a good market and 3 years into a challenging market.  I received my real estate training from Colorado Real Estate Institute and have been diligent in taking continuing education courses, earning the Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR), Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI) and e-Pro designations.  I am currently working diligently and continually on designations in the short sale and foreclosure segments. I do believe the more education I can absorb, the more my clients will benefit in the end.

I am no stranger to relocation and understand the efforts made to move to a new location, get acclimated and find out the way to the local grocery store.  Thank goodness for pizza delivery!  I’ve lived in several areas of the country, including West Virginia, Kansas, Texas, Georgia and Washington.  My husband and I were transferred to Colorado in 1998 and found ourselves in Castle Rock, later moving to Larkspur, enjoying Douglas County amenities such as hiking trails, the South Platte and Pike National Forest, among many others.

Castle Rock and Larkspur have become a favorite relocation spot, with new and resale homes in all price ranges.  They are a good stopping point, placed conveniently between Denver and Colorado Springs along I-25. The town is always planning more development, welcoming businesses through the Chamber of Commerce.  Another bonus, the Douglas County School system repeatedly improves and scores high in the academic arena.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with out-of-town buyers quite frequently, and answer Colorado-specific questions that come up such as “What is radon?” and “What are shifting soils?”  Equally, I will ask detailed questions to buyers so that I can present properties closest to their criteria.  I’ve learned that many times buyers aren’t sure what they want until they see it.

Clients selling their homes with my help can expect a comprehensive marketing program designed to market their property, accenting the best features.  I’ve learned to market properties effectively on the Internet, the number one marketing tool for selling properties, now exceeding sign calls.

In conclusion, my goal is to create repetitive business based on happy client referrals and an informative website that clients can visit even when they are not in the market to buy or sell.  In my efforts I have succeeded so far and will continue to hold ethics high, work for the best interest of my clients and truly enjoy and have fun at what I do for a living.
